Slowly students began filtering in, until finally all the tables were nearly full. Then, the first years were lead into the great hall by the deputy headmaster: Dumbledore. They filed in, single file, alphabetical order. The hat did it's little song ditty and the sorting ceremony commenced.

Sirius banged his head on the table from how bored his was. He was sure to be quiet though because it would be very funny but also quite awkward for his head to be making a loud booming noise while the first years were being sorted. Oh yes that would have been a good yet sadly short spiel but that is not what happen because it was as a wrote and therefore it was a very quiet banging of the head on a table.

James tried his best to ignore Sirius's head bangs; it seemed he was trying to kill his last brain cell - James didn't want to get in the way of that - Sirius's stupidity was one of lives few pleasures. On the thought of pleasure, James turned his eyes upon Lily. He stared lustfully at her, his eyes full of hunger. His mouth curved into a genuine smile. Lily was such a radiant girl; her silky red hair and sparkling green eyes always dazzled him.

Lily politely applauded a first year girl who became a Slytherin and hurried over to sit at their table, next to Severus. She caught his eye and smiled.
