Slughorn shook his head disapprovingly, "No, not really, not at all. Potions are not always consumed, often times they can be used in other ways and they can be so much more than just medicine or poision. And you will find that they can never be crafted by a magician. A magician is a muggle who pretends to have magical powers. Muggles cannot make potions no matter how hard they pretend. Did you actually say Dragons can brew a potion? How in Merlin's name do you expect a dragon to be careful enough, smart enough, or magical enough to concoct a potion? There is just no conceivable way that a monstrosity like that could ever brew something. And finally, faeries are little more than insects flapping their little wings and making bright lights and sparkles. There is absolutely no way they could make a potion. Now, does anybody have a real answer. Something they actually learned earlier in this class?"

Evangeline banged her head on the book in front of her and sighed. She then started to mumble to herself about how one day she will surpass Lily.

Lily kind of gave Evangeline a sympathetic look and lowered her head a little bit, not answering the question, not wanting to look like she was trying to beat Evangeline in class.

Slughorn smiled, and obliviously walked over to Lily. "Lily, my girl! I'm sure you have the answer. Any idea?"

At that moment, the door burst open.
"Sorry I'm late Professor Slughorn! I overslept!" explained Ashley, as she worked her way between the tables so she could get the last available seat at the front of the room.

((HI ROBIN! Our Lupin hasn't been on in a year, so if you want that character as well, you are more than welcome to take it.))
Slughorn's eyes lit up and he smiled broadly. He waddled slowly over to her cauldron.
"Excellent timing my girl! I have a question that has seemed to stump the class. Perhaps you can answer it," Slughorn lifted an eyebrow. "I might even be able to overlook your tardiness."

((Hi, yourself! I would love to be one of the Marauders, so yes, I'll be Remus.))
Ashley sat down. "And what question might that be, Professor?"

Slughorn nodded before speaking, "What is the definition of a potion."
Slughorn stepped backwards, adjusted his robes around his belly, and then sat down on top of his desk.

"Well, erm... It's quite hard to define exactly what a potion is... There are many different types, you see... Like, there's ones that make you lucky or smelly or dead... But basically, they're a mixture of various magical -and sometimes rare- ingredients, that create a desired effect. I'm not so good with the 'desired effect' part... But I like the mixing." She smiled meekly.

"Ah, very good my girl. Excellent response." Slughorn commended. "A potion is essentially any substance that was created through the mixture of magical ingredients by a witch or wizard to produce a desired magical effect."
James turned to Sirius, and spoke just loud enough for Lily to hear him "I could have told him that. I knew the answer."
"Right," Slughorn continued. "Please turn to page twenty-three in your text book. Today we will be reviewing the Wiggenweld potion. Who in this class remembers what the Wiggenweld potion is used for?"

Remus raised his hand, "A Wiggenweld potion is essentially a healing potion it's used to awaken a person from a magically-induced sleep."

"Absoultely right. Five points to Gryffindor! The Wiggenweld potion will bring the drinker back from nearly any magically-induced sleep. It is especially useful in countering the draught of the living death, which will put the drinker into a sleep so deep, that they will appear to be dead," Slughorn looked over at Lily, wondering why she was not answering any of his questions today. He took several steps backwards, before gesturing to a table at the front of the room. Upon it were strewn many different glass bottles and containers. "I have laid out all the ingredients that you will require for making this potion. You can begin now. I would like to see what you have at the end of the class."

Remus cracked his knuckles and went up to the front to get the ingredients he needed. Then he returned to his desk and set up his cauldron.
Since Ashley was sitting at the front of the room, anyway, she reached from where she was sitting to grab a flask and ingredients. Then she remembered something. She raised her hand.

Serverus got the ingerdients for himself and lily. He handed her her ingredients with a smile then began on his work. "You're awefully quiet." he said to lily
Sirius got his stuff and sat back down. He opened his book and began.
Amber had gotten her ingredients and looked flustered already as she reread the directions in her book.

Since Professor Slughorn seemed preoccupied, Ashley decided to excuse herself from class because she'd forgotten her cauldron. She dashed up to her dormitory, got it, and dashed back, completely unnoticed by the dormant professor.
