James laughed. "Are you serious? Do you know anything about girls? No of course not, you've never had a girl friend. So how about you leave this to the Master."
James strutted into the paddock and took a seat on one of the tree stumps. He was eager, not for the lesson, but to see whether or not Lily was in the class again this year.

"I actually know lots about girls." replied Remus, "And I've only never had a girlfriend because having one would interfere too much with my life right now."

Sneering, James started to mock Remus, "Right, interfere with your life. Face it Remus, girls don't want you. You're nerdy and awkward. You don't know anything about girls, the way they think, what they like in a guy. Not to mention your --"
But James was interrupted as Professor Kettleburn appeared in front of them. With a cough, he drew attention to himself. "Hello class. I'm glad to see you all back again this year. I see that my firecrabs weren't enough to steer you away," at this he laughed, as though he thought he made a joke. "I must warn you that this year we will be dealing with more dangerous creatures than firecrabs. You must be aware of the risks associated with being in this class. You will not be forced to participate in any class activities that you feel uncomfortable with, but failure to do so, may result in a lower mark. If you are thinking of transferring into something easier like Divinations," he laughed again, "you can still do that."
A piece of wood was suddenly thrown at the class. It was then they noticed a large cage behind Professor Kettleburn. Within the cage were small, mean looking men that seemed to be made of sticks and bark.

"Bowtruckles" murmured Ashley. She'd read lots about Bowtruckles, but didn't really fancy seeing one up close.

James overheard Ashley's comment. So when Professor Kettleburn showed them the creatures behind himself and asked if asked if anyone knew what they were, James thrust his arm into the air. He didn't know what they were but he assumed Ashley was right in identifying them. James was called upon and he told Professor Kettleburn that they were Bowtruckles.
Professor Kettleburn smiled, "Very good James! Five points to Gryffindor! Can you tell us anything about the Bowtruckle?"
"They're little stick things." James shrugged, not really knowing anything about them.

"They're stick things because they're tree dwellers. It's camouflage." said Ashley.

((Maybe we should wait up for Lily and Spazy to come online... We're sort of running way ahead of them, I'm sure they'll get lost.))

((Good plan.
For Lily and Spazy: a quick recap. James was in the hospital wing, and he missed Herbology, and now he's back and everyone's in Care of Magical Creatures. Huzzah!))

((Okay, as soon as their names vanish from the active in the last 24 hours thingy, I'm spamming their facebook walls. Or well... maybe I'll just post a nice picture to remind them to come back.))

((LAWLZ! You two are kinda funny.))
Lily had been there the whole time sitting next to Ashley. Or at least that's what we're gonna go with.

Ashley was very aware of the fact that Lily was beside her. She could easily see why James was so crazy about her... Lily really was quite pretty...
... What was she saying? Were these normal thoughts for one girl to have about another? She decided to just ignore them and focus on the lesson.

James just spotted Lily. She must have been a little late to arrive. She was sitting so close to him. He could reach out and touch her. But that would be weird and creepy, so he didn't. James wondered if she had seen him answer that question. She must of thought James was smart.
"Very good, Ashley! Would you like to explain to those new to this class what camouflage is and how it can benefit an animal?" Kettleburn asked.

"Well," said Ashley, "Camouflage is a way for an animal to blend in to it's surroundings. The Bowtruckle looks like wood and twigs, so when it's in a tree it looks like it's part of it."
